I thought I would include a report of success in case it helped someone in the future. My Honda EU2000i generator refused to run except with choke on full and without any load. Doug Braun replied as

Sounds like you escaped cheaply. But one thing made me think: My experience with brake cleaner is that it won't dissolve oily films and varnish as well as carb cleaner. Next time you change your oil,

I don't think you can buy the sort of brake cleaner I use, here in CA, either. It is the sort of stuff that I apply outdoors and downwind. I could see that it dissolved the varnish and goo in the jet
