You likely need to 'chase' the threads. Once cross-threaded it will tend to follow that thread each time you try to assemble it (and get worse each time, too). Best would be to get a re-threading tap

Sometimes I have spread out the sleeve with a large flatblade screwdriver to allow me to get it at least a half inch in (that was with old rusty sleeves about 25 years ago) Scott R __________________

Well, I am an idiot and freely admit it with my hand held high. The new ones have the same length ball joint end threads. The old ones didn't. I thought I had the new outer since the threaded end of

Be aware that some cars have left-hand threads on one side of the tie rod. I suppose you have a steering rack car, so that wasn't the problem in your case, but still... Jeff Wossisname Corrosion Acre
