There's no problem with using a hose on it. You get water from underneath and through the radiator when you drive in the rain. If you feel the need, you can always disconnect the negative battery cab

Jim, One method is to cover whatever you do not want wet with plastic wrap and then aluminum foil. It will keep about 90 per cent of things dry. I suggest you use the plastic wrap used for shipping.
