Guys,

My confusion with suitable tyres for the PI still continues and is
compounded by the choice of wheels in my possession. In the Service Notes
for The Register, Andy Roberts says that 14" Stag wheels with 175/75or 80x14
tyres will come within a whisker of the original rolling radius of the
former 13" wheels with 185x13 tyres. Those smaller units must have had one
helluvan aspect ratio! Currently, my car is running on 175R14 Kelly radials
with an 88S speed rating and I'm not too happy with them. After blasting her
round a disused airfield for much of today, I'm still seriously thinking of
going back to the 13 inch wheels. After all, I've got six of them - apart
from the 5 Stag alloys on the car and I've got umpteen of the Rostyle wheel
covers as well. I'd like to get the wheels cleaned up and powder coated
providing the damned tyres could be sourced. To my mind, the car just
doesn't look RIGHT on Stag alloys but it seems the factory fitted 185SR13
tyres are now in hen's teeth country or only suitable (and speed rated) for
a van application. The only other likely source for these (now) oddball
tyres would seem to be one of the specialists handling Veteran, Vintage and
other specialist rubber. Does any UK lister have any experience of these
companies in terms of supplier, price and product choice? Even though I feel
there is no likelihood whatsoever of the car ever being driven at its
maximim speed, an SR rated tyre leaves me feeling less than comfy and I'd
prefer an HR version if possible.
