Anybody still there? Not much activity on the list at the moment, so how
about this?

Yesterday I got in to start the car and found no clutch. No pool of
fluid on the floor, but inside the reservoir was full of thick red
jelly. No amount of pumping did anything, so I tried gently warming, and
adding a bit more fluid and stirring it around. It proved extremly hard
to clear, being very reluctant to dissolve in new fluid. Even drained
and refilled it still would not pump, because the seals and channels
inside the master cylinder were choked with the stuff. Eventually by a
mixture of suction at the clutch end and pressure at the filler I freed
it up, and then flushed it through repeatedly with new fluid.
I had checked the level the night before and it was all right. I assume
that the colder weather was responsible, but I am puzzled that the
change seems irreversible. The brakes are unaffected.
Is this a common occurence? It is a bit worrying that it can happen so
suddenly.
