Checking both of my manuals reveals that brake rotors can be resurfaced by
removing no more than .060-inches, however nowhere have I found the minimum
allowable rotor thickness. This is the spec. that other car makers give in
service manuals, in my experience.
As I do not know whether my rotors have previously been remachined, how can
I tell whether I need to replace them for the upcoming brake job?
Second question: Is it, in others' experience, better to rebuild front
brake calipers myself or spring the $$ for factory rebuilts, such as TRF
offers? I am not afraid of rebuilding, but am I likely to find scored/worn
pistons and such, or will cleaning, new seals and boots do the job? I've
had a mildly stuck caliper (left outer, released easily with light pressure
from C-clamp) which is the impetus for the brake job at this time.
