Corey,

Everything that I have read in the past several years has suggested that 
seat belts are subject to degrading over time.  This causes the fibers to 
weaken (something you can't see) and when they are stressed, they may 
break.

The $200 may hurt now, but it will be well worth the money if you ever 
really need them.
