Gary---You probably have already done this, but I didn't see it on your
list of things you have done.  Be sure no vapors are escaping from the
hose between the fuel filler cap and the tank itself. 

If you have a friendly Gas Co. serviceman, ask him to wave his odor
detector (manometer?) around in your trunk. OR..if you happen to have
access to portable Carbon Monoxide Alarm, this might reveal the source.
