steering questions

Hi,

I have a 1972 TR6

One set of catalogs (moss Motors) and no one else including the shop manual
show a couple of braces that go from the firewall (or close to that) and go
to the steering column mount on the dashboard.

My car shows no sign that these were installed at the factory.  I think they
will add extra support for the steering, but wonder if they were left off on
purpose.

Any ideas gratefully received
