Heater Core

Recently removed heater core from the car.  Now that I've had it cleaned, time
to replace.  However, only now do I notice that of the two pipes, one is
longer than the other.  I've studied it a bit (in place, proper hoses, etc),
but still not sure which way it should be oriented in the heater box.  Does
the longer pipe go closest to the firewall or does the shorter pipe go closest
to the firewall?
