Hey Marty,
The opinions on valve seals seem to vary depending on the engine shop.
My particular machine shop felt that if the valve guides and valve stems
are in spec the seals would not serve a useful purpose. If you use the
theory that when the valve guides wear the seals would stop excessive
oil seepage then by that time the seals would be worn as well & not
offer any real help. He also considered the seal might starve
lubrication to the guides.
Once again, different builders have different guidelines and priorities.
