Hi List...

Thought I would give the list an update on a couple problems I had posted to
the list.

The first was brakes that sometimes worked high and hard and at other times
were soft until the pedal was depressed half way to the floor. In either
situation the brakes ALWAYS worked. After trying to bleed the brakes several
times I finally decided that the brake MC must be catching while trying to
return after the pedal was depressed. A new brake MC has solved the problem.
I will take the old one apart and I am sure I will find a place in the bore
that is catching the MC as it tries to return.

Interestingly enough, replacing the MC has made the shimmy almost completely
non-existent. I think the MC not releasing all the way back was causing the
brakes to be applied gently enough to provide some drag. There certainly
appeared to be an excess of brake dust on the wheels as well as several times
where the front hub was almost too hot to touch. If I didnt know the shimmy
had been there before and wasnt paying very particular attention to the speed
where the shimmy was occuring I doubt I would be able to pick it up. It
remains to be seen if the shimmy stays away or comes back, or gets worse. I
havent had an excess of time in the car at the speeds where the shimmy occurs
so I will hold final judgement until I can make sure. Any thoughts from the
list as to why the MC might solve a shimmy? I am positive that there were no
other changes to the car other than MC replacement.

Thanks to all who have provided guidance and suggestions for these two problems.

Cheers,

Aaron
