Breather Baffle

Another not-quite-as-important-as-capturing-Saddam question. Within the
stock valve cover is a baffle over the breather exit. Under this baffle is a
metal mesh (old chain mail?) which, I assume, prevents oil splashes from
being sucked into the carbs. I've removed my gunk-blocked old mesh (bent up
the tab and used a hook probe to pull it out), but I can't find anything
about replacing it. Yeah, I suppose I could clean it, but yuck!

Question: what's the recommended replacement for that metal mesh? Bronze or
steel wool? A plastic-mesh pot scrubber? A scrubbing sponge? An old knitted
mitten?
