I went through a similar problem some months ago. Rick is right you either
have the gear in the wrong position at the dizzy drive/cam gear or more
seriously have the crank/camshaft position wrong. Fortuneatly mine was the
former
and was easily remedied. Set the crank to TDC with the rotor pointed to #1
post
of dizzy cap. You may find that they don,t line up. In that case remove
Dizzy and drive gear. Reinstall drive gear so that it is rotated one tooth
counter-clockwise. You'll have to move to oil pump cog a bit to get the gear
to drop
into place. This may take more than one try.
Then replace dizzy and check rotor to cap alignment. Ther may be an easier
way-but this worked for me. Good luck.
