Removing Rubber Bumpers

I've read on the list that others have modified the later model bumpers to 
remove the big rubber bumpers from the equation.  It looks like to do this 
you need to fabricate a bracket to replace the existing one that extends 
from the back of the bumper down to the frame rails.  Anyone out there who'd 
done this mod, can you describe what you did?  Any pictures?
