Carl---SC's that do not fit the TRiumph bracket at the engine back plate
is the end result of companies who sell generic parts. I suppose the
bracket could be bored out to fit, or the body of the SC turned
undersize.
If you bolt the SC to the "wrong" side of the bracket, this will cause
the piston to have to reach too far to disengage the clutch. In some
cases the piston could pop out of its bore. If you don't want to have
to re-engineer this piece, then purchase a genuine SC from another
store. Let VB know what the problem is with the one they sent you.

fit universally on either side of the holder hole and still work with

which is the way the old one was positioned)
