Frame ID Tag

With the engine out of my 70 TR6, I see that there is a metal tag attached to
the top of the frame cross member in the engine compartment.  It looks like "D
3".  Not sure about the 3, but definitely yes on the D.  Is this some type of
factory identification for the TR6?  Possibly a similar case as the body
number in the rear wheel arch?
