Oliver,
After being quoted $120 per belt minimum by SSnake-Oyl last week, I went web
shopping and bought a pair of the Securon belts. They are a bit more modern
looking retractors than the Kangols but fit exactly like the originals.
They have the cable stalks almost identical to the originals. I did a bit of
shopping around and found them at
http://www.eurocarparts.com/ (search for part num. 956770041)for 27.83 GB
pounds ($48.79) each. Total for two belts and shipping was 77.66 GBP
($136.16), delivered in 3 days, no import duty. These are Securon model
500/30, same as those that Victoria British and SNG Barratt sell for about
$89 each. I have to admit they are bit lightweight feeling compared to the
Kangols, but once installed, hardly a noticeable difference.

I also opened up the case on one of the Kangols this weekend, and after
rewinding a spring back into the case (ooops..), I can see that they are not
that difficult to deal with at all. Mine are in very good shape
mechanically, so just need the webbing replaced. Though it appears the
mechanism must be disassembled to put a new belt on, it's only 3 E-clips
holding it all together, so I would be comfortable doing this, assuming I
could find someone to stitch new belts with the original hardware on them.

Good Luck with the belts,
Let me know if you find something closer to original, I have another set to
replace.

Kirby...

i had wanted to repair my seat belts on my 72 TR6, so i sent them to
www.ssnake-oyl.com

they wanted $300+ just to replace the webbing. they would not/could not
repair the retractors.

i guess i'm going shopping for seat belts with a vintage look . . .
