Jim:
The most obvious possibility is heat soak on the carbs. Since
your temp compensators are new, I suspect they are misadjusted (which
according to Nelson Reidel is common). The mixture is too rich when the
carbs overheat, and you may notice black smoke when she finally starts.
Once you start driving the car, the air moving under the hood cools the
carbs and the mixture returns to normal, so the car runs fine.
I have attached a hyperlink to Nelson Reidel's article on how to
calibrate your temp compensators. Mine were waaaaay off when I checked
them. You will need a meat thermometer and some hot water to calibrate
them.

Hello Listers,
It's been a long time since I have written to the list but I have been
lurking! Hopefully you will forgive my non activity and provide
feedback for a problem I have been having starting the engine after a
short stop. When cold the engine starts with no problem, but if I stop
somewhere once she is hot it will crank for what seems like forever
before it reluctantly stumbles to a start. After a minute or so she
starts running fine. The ZS carbs have been rebuilt and temp
compensators were replaced. I am running standard points with new
ignition wires, cap rotor and plugs. Any thoughts?
