        Dick:

        A different numbering system was used for factory replacement
gearboxes (according to Roger Williams). I bet it is a Leyland warranty
replacement gearbox.

 List---I received the below request and am unable to shed any light on
the subject. Anyone know what the numbers are?

<snip>

I started to tear down a recently acquired TR-6 gearbox for rebuilding,
and noticed a very strange serial #. I am familiar with the CD/CC
numbering system, and all other boxes I have ever seen in 25 years have
that numbering system.
This gearbox has the serial # D16A75. It is stamped in characters
smaller than that used for the CD/CC numbers, and is also upside down
and backwards from the way CD/CC numbers are stamped.
There are also a couple of smaller letter and number stamps, perhaps
suggesting the marks of other
technicians who also worked on the gearbox or is sub-assemblies. I see
no evidence that an original CD/CC seral number has been ground off and
replaced with the D16A75.

Best regards from the woods of Southampton County VA.
