Lug Nuts

I bought some VB Minators for my Series I.
I know that I need to either shape the balance tabs on the rear drums or use
a spacer.
If I shave the balance tabs, won't that throw the drum out of balance and
cause problems.
If I use the spacer, then I don't get a good grip on the lugs with the nuts.
So, I suppose I should get longer Lugs.  Are they available. Where are they
available, and what am I looking for.
