Hope you havnt already buggered the pully snout...

You use a brass drift, or use a chisel if you are especially carefull.
You hit the front of the key (parallel to the crank) without touching the
crank
at all with the drift.  Use a brass drif as it wont marr the crank snout
when touched.
The keyway is round slot, so hitting it straight will lever the key out as
it
is smacked.  It also tends to rotate as it come out, so you can get
something
under it to pry it the rest of the way out.

Definately throw away the one that is in there once you get it out.

I've tried everything I can think of to get the key out of the crankshaft,
including vice grip plyers, smacking it with a hammer and punch, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)
