The Most Famous Bondmobiles by Bonnie McGeer

Sunbeam Alpine

The Film: Dr. No (1962; Sean Connery)
Worldwide Gross: $59,600,000

This is the very first Bond film, and the hallmark car-chase scene is tame
compared to the ever-escalating mayhem of later installments in the series. In
the film, Bond's rented convertible zips along mountain roads, evading a
hearse
that has deadly intentions. The less-nimble hearse ends up heaving off the
road and over the side of the mountain.

The 1961 Sunbeam Alpine, looking sharp in light blue, is not as beautiful as
other roadsters of the time and not as emphatically impressive as Bond's later
cars. But for Bondmobile fans, this spunky car has the enduring appeal of a
first love.

The Standard Features Available On The Sunbeam Alpine
b" Because Bond rents this car in Jamaica, it does not come equipped with any
of Q's refinements, but at least it's speedy.

Little-Known Bondmobile Facts
b" The Sunbeam Alpine is a small British sports car that was manufactured
from
1959 through 1968. Approximately 69,000 of the vehicles were made in all.
b" During filming in Jamaica, the production company paid a local woman 15
shillings a day for the use of her Sunbeam Alpine.
