Bolder's Thin Metal Film Battery Technology Receives Top INDUSTRYWEEK Award

PR News Wire via Dow Jones

GOLDEN, Colo., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- BOLDER Technologies Corporation
(Nasdaq: BOLD) today announced its Thin Metal Film (TMF(R)) high-power battery
technology received INDUSTRYWEEK's prestigious Technology and Innovation of
the
Year Award, which was reported in the December 21, 1998 issue to an audience
of
800,000 readers. The company's patented TMF technology employs two key
structural innovations: (1) a very large plate surface achieved by using
extremely thin, closely spaced plates; and (2) unique end connectors that
provide a very low impedance connection between plates and the device to be
powered.

To select the winners, editors identified developments that demonstrate high
potential for redirecting business opportunities and creating new growth in
the
manufacturing world.  Other award winners included Apple Computer Inc.;
Computer
Associates International Inc.; Hewlett-Packard Co.; IBM Corp. Microelectronics
Division; Isis Pharmaceuticals Inc.; Rockwell Automation, a division of
Rockwell
International; Sandia National Laboratories; Sun Microsystems Inc.; and Texas
Instruments Inc.

BOLDER's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Daniel Lankford commented, "We
are pleased to be included in this distinguished group of award winners.
Because
the BOLDER battery has the highest power of any battery available, our
technology is enabling new market applications previously not possible. A
two-pound TMF REBEL(TM) battery pack can start a cold V-8 engine 25 times in
five minutes. TMF batteries are ideally suited for providing compact,
reliable
starting for all kinds of engines. Worldwide engine starting represents a $9
billion market opportunity, and this is a key target market for BOLDER.
BOLDER
batteries are also an ideal solution in many applications where bursts of very
high power are required from a small package, including certain power tools,
backup power, and power quality systems. We are now in production and look
forward to an exciting year."

  BOLDER Technologies Corporation

Headquartered in Golden, Colo., BOLDER Technologies is an energy technology
company that is developing and commercializing advanced, high-power,
rechargeable battery systems based on its patented TMF technology. The
Company's
TMF technology uses proven lead-acid electro-chemistry in a proprietary
configuration that has higher power density than any commercially available
rechargeable battery. BOLDER Technologies believes that the high power and
other performance characteristics of TMF technology offer a number of
advantages
over existing batteries for a wide range of current and future applications.
