That depends on the engine, Rex.  How much back-pressure can it take? 
The basic tenet of the SuperTrapp is that back-pressure is
proportional to sound level.  If you add disks, you'll get more sound
and less back-pressure.  If you take away disks, you'll get less sound
and more back-pressure.  Somewhere in the middle, there should be a
happy medium for your engine, if it's going to work at all.  Lots of
British engines like them.  Lots of other American and Japanese
engines don't.  YMMV!

Please remember that the SuperTrapp was invented to quiet Mazda rotary
engines on an experimental VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing)
aircraft. And it takes a LOT to quiet a Mazda rotary!!!  8<{) 
Un-muffled, they're far more obnoxious than even an un-muffled Neon!!!
