E30 M3 vs Type R in GS?

If GS is in fact being redefined as a new faster class what arguments
might prevent the E30 M3 from moving to GS.  It hasn't been competitive
in AS for quite a few years and it doesn't seem a mismatch in weight,
horsepower or other vital statistics.  I hope opponents can manage
better arguments than the usual mystical incantation that BMWs are more
than the sum of their parts.  It could make an interesting addition to
the new GS mix.
