also, into the fray - dunlop sp8000's - from looking at tire rack's test 
results they seem a contender in the blue corner in the STS ring.  yes, i ruled 
out the kuhmo's because they wont grip as well as the others i'm
contemplating.  Tirerack has: 

SP Sport 8000's - 205/55/15 - $85/ea
treadwear of 200AA

And i'm considering: Toyo Proxes T1-S, 205/55/15 for $135 a tire from 
www.treaddepot.com, treadwear of 280 IIRC.
