Maybe I should have said any "non Japanese vintage engine":-)

I owned (and used Very Hard) a 74 260Z for almost 190K miles. Similar oil 
mileage to your 240 with 20W-50 GTX. No gearbox problems or clock problems. 
Last I saw/heard it has well over 200K and still hasn't been rebuilt. Maybe 
not even a valve job (I did replace the head gasket without getting the 
head checked at all) in 1977 when it had around 60K on it. Helped a friend 
with a 72 240 rebuild his at about 100K after he broke a valve (tach read 
LOW). Bores looked NEW and so did the bearings! Tough cars!!!
