There's a trick with static cling. I guess you gotta create the static.

Bring a squirt bottle of water along.

First, be sure the door is clean. Then, squirt water on the door, put the
number on the wet door, squeegee the number down. It'll stay.

Was having the same problem, using static cling on a door with so much Bondo
magnets wouldn't stick, until I learned the water trick.
