Another quick fix here might be to have the registration table "assign"
numbers to these people. Like "Here's your tape, you're number 125."
Otherwise everyone gets lazy and uses 1's and 7's, as you noted.
In the fifth run group (ST/SM), there were at least 4 cars numbered "11" to
start with (including my codriver). People thankfully changed to 1, 711,
etc, for the most part, leaving only 2 11's.
Still, it seems it would be easier to just have a "highest temp # assigned"
piece of paper at registration and encourage people to use the next one.
