Check out NASCAR Racing 2003. No, really. Great
physics and people are busy putting out new tracks and
cars for it. I've only downloaded a few and I've got
a good 30 road tracks to play on, including a few that
are gone forever, like Bridgehampton and Riverside.
Only downside to NR2k3 is that you're stuck with the
NASCAR tuning system (wedge, track bar, etc)

Check out http://theuspits.com for a sample of what's
available to modify NR2k3.

Another popular PC sim is F1 Challenge 99-02, by EA.
Again, it's popular more for the mods you can get for
it than the base game, but it's pretty interesting in
its own right. Definitely a different sort of drive
than the NASCAR cars.
