 It's been a while so most of this is from memory on several GM columns.
First you have to remove the wheel and adaptor. The you will se a plate with
a bunch of slots in it, this is the lock plate. To remove it you need a
special tool that screws onto the column and depresses the plate so you can
take out the snap ring  that holds it in. Be careful there is a strong
spring behind it. Once it is off there is usually a bolt (sometimes a pin)
that holds the back of the lock, once it is removed the lock pulls straight
out and the new one slides in reversing the process.
The tool looks like a big U with a bolt running up the middle.
This is not that hard if you have the correct tools.
