Hey gang,

I don't know if any of you that are going to the meet are airplane buffs,
but I think that most of us like anything unusual.

I'm on a list for old HeathKit equipment, since most of my ham radio equipment
is heathkit. I didn't realize that heathkit got started as a kit
airplane company.

I received the following email from the Heathkit list. Sounds like it might be
an interesting side trip, while we're at the meet in Lexington.

There is a display at the Lexington, Kentucky airport (Blue Grass
Field) at the Air Museum that encompasses a HEATH airplane and a
static display of the HENDERSON motorcycle engine that powered the
aircraft. In addition, those of you who know of the exploits of one
Powell Crosley, Jr. will be pleased to note that one of only five (5)
CROSLEY MOONBEAM aircraft is also co-located with the HEATH airplane.
The Crosley Moonbeam is as rare as fangs on a chicken. Both the
Crosley and the Heath aircraft are airworthy (at least when they were
ensconced) and are worthy of viewing.

I obtained my student license at the Frankfort, KY. airport and knew
the owner of the CROSLEY MOONBEAM personally. He flew the aircraft
regularly until an untimely storm damaged the aircraft beyond flying
capability. The airplane was sold, restored, and eventually returned
to Central Kentucky and thus it resides in the museum in Lexington.

There is a similar story about the HEATH airplane and there are maybe
those who can contribute to its legacy.
