morals vs. money (HELP ME!)

Subject: TR7 5-speed transmission -> Spitfire?

I was just looking through Victoria's or someone's catalog yesterday and
saw that 4-speed TR7 and late Spitfire transmissions were identical, or
at least close.  What are the obstacles to putting a TR7 5-speed into
a Spitfire?  Did they mate to the same block?  Would it be possible to
do it with a TR7 adaptor plate onto the Spit block?  Were the TR7 5-speeds
any good in the first place???

I'm still looking for bumpers for a pre-`75 Spit 1500, also chrome trim strips
and door handles, and chrome versions of pretty much anything that
turned black in 1979.
