Hi Chris,
When I was putting the new engine in the TR-3A, I had
the same thought - to paint the oil filter canister the correct
color. ANyway, I found that "Hammertone" makes a green of just
about the right color, and it even has the right "texture". It
ended up looking pretty sharp, if I do say so myself.

ps. Regarding your advance, I believe Kastner's competition
manual syggests limiting total advance to something like
28 degrees (initial plus vacuum plus centrifugal).
