Tim Drabik has been asking questions about Spitfire 1500 compresion, pistons and heads. I seem to recall somebody mentioning that in 1976 *only* (?) there was a high-compression engine option available in the Spitfire. Is this true? If so, can I tell from the engine # if the engine in my '78 Midget (which I removed from a wrecked '76 Spitfire) is one of these? It sure doesn't like running on anything but unleaded premium, despite the manual saying regular is OK. - Alan Dahl |
