I have been using the Allison on my Spitfire without the ballast
resistor for over two years without any problems. I haven't done
any adjustments on it either since the first time. One piece of
advice however, don't mount the unit in the engine compartment.
The sparks become weaker as the environment becomes hotter and
it is also suceptable to rainwater.
