* Do a final sanding with 400 grit, or even 600 grit. Make it really
thorough, so you know that all the scratches remaining are fine-grit scratches.
400 is not really very fine. Go for something like 1000 or 1200 for the final
sanding. Or if you have the time and inclination, spray on a the first coats
of color, let it cure, then go over the whole thing with 1500 before spraying
the final coat.
