Yes, from '53 to '55 they made a car that somewhat resembles a Jag 
XK-120, and named it 'Alpine.'  The Alpine that you are no doubt 
thinking of was built from '59 to '67.

I pretty sure the name 'Alpine' goes even further back into the
Sunbeam/Rootes history, but I don't know the details.
