The three line marking means SAE grade 5. They should be replaced with grade 5 bolts, even in seemingly non-critical applications. (Carroll Smith would tell you not to use them, even in non-critical applications, but he's used to building race cars). Stainless steel bolts should be used on boats, and then with a great deal of caution. They're weak and brittle, if pretty. |
