I currently own a '64 MGB with a small block Ford
V8. Does anyone else out there happen to own or
once owned something similar? I'm looking for
some advice on how to insulate the passenger
compartment from the heat. The motor has headers
that collect through the wheel wells and the
exhaust system continues under the floorboards and
seats. It feels great in the winter! 8-) But
it'd be nice to be able to drive it more in the
        summer months.

        Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi Dan

I have an old tear sheet from the tips and tricks column from July 88 Hot
Rod magazine. The column dealt with insulation tips (heat, sound) and one
that looks like it has potential is as follows.

"An amazing heat shield discovered for automotive use by upholsterer Dave
Gade, is Johns-Manville Cerablanket, made to insulate furnaces. It can
crush on floors but is excellent behind carpeting on the firewall (glue it
to the carpet, then attach the carpet to the firewall) or on (or under)
transmission tunnels."

The article also mentioned jute having reasonably good heat and sound
insulation properties. Also said do not use rubber padding (rather
obvious). Seal all holes in the firewall with new grommets, duct tape and
caulk and pay real attention to the shift boot.

It mentioned J-M Cerablanket was available from Fabric Works but gave no
address.
