In my experience, it is the whole valve that leaks.
On a completely unrelated note, I adjusted the valves on my MGB over
the weekend, and for the first time I did it "cold" to .0015 instead
of doing it "hot" to .0013. Seems *much* better. I got that idea
from someone off the net (apparently standard technique, but it doesn't
say that in my Hayne's), so I thought I'd send out a general "thanks".
