.......Bob Jones sees a 2 in a diamond on his pistons and wonders if
they are +.020...............

Bob,
this sounds like a size grading at the factory(probably on the order of
1/2 thousandths). But why the mystery? .020 is a visually noticeable
difference.
Just slip the skirt of the piston in question into the bore of the other engine.
If it fits in the bore without use of an arbor press it is not +.020 or even
+.010
above the bore of the other engine.

Or take the pistons past your favorite machine shop and have them measured. It
takes
less then 30 seconds and they will probably do it for free.

Another easy way for you to compare the bore size of the two engines with
minimum tools:

Take a piston ring from one of the pistons. Slide it into the bore of the
first engine (about an inch) Measure the gap between the ring ends. (you can
use
the feeler guages you use to set the ignition points)

Repeat this on the second engine. Compare the measurements. Take the difference
in
the measurements and divide by 3.14. The result is the difference in bore.

Who knows, Maybe the parts you bought will work 8^)

good luck
