I was wondering if there was anyone out there who might know of where I
could get a copy of the original production drawings for a Mk2 Spitfire.
I have looked in all my books and I have only found a couple of Ortho
views and they do not have enough detail or dimensions. The isometric
plans that are commonly available are pretty, but they are no use for
what I want to do.
The reason that I ask is that I have 5 Spitfires and would love to have
a model of my car. The only model that I have found available is $40 and
is 1/43 scale.
I am taking an AA degree in CAD and with the plans I can make a 3D drawing
that can be sent to a milling machine which will mill out the peices. I
then plan to make moulds of these peices and produce a limited amount of
models, both for my personal use and for a select group of friends. The
good thing is that it is easy to change the scale of the model using this
meathod so producing 1/32, 1/24, 1/25 or even 1/12 models would not be too
hard. I am certainly not interested in making a full time "hobby" out of
it, that's what the real thing is for!!!
Who knows, if this works out OK I just might work on making TR6 models too.
I hear that there was never a TR6 model made. As with any good theory it's
just a mater of how much time one has to work on it and how expensive the
the job is!
