David Hobbs To Be Featured Speaker At the Elite Reunion

David Hobbs, international sports car and Formula 1 driver, will
be the featured speaker at Lotus Ltd's LOG 14 banquet. Hobbs,
a Team Elite member and co-driver, along with Frank Gardner, of
the Le Mans class winning Elite in 1962, will provide insight and
humor as he recounts his Elite experiences. Hobbs drove an Elite,
with a Mecha-Matic transmission designed by his father, to 14
consecutive victories in 1961.
This is one of the events to be held at Waterbury, Connecticut and
Lime Rock Park from 26 - 29 August 1994 as Lotus Ltd., the largest
North American based Lotus club, holds its 14th annual Lotus Owners
Gathering (LOG) featuring the Type 14 Lotus, the Elite.
To commemorate the Elite's extraordinary racing success and place
in automobile history, Lotus Ltd. has created The Elite Reunion.
Many of those resposible for the design, creation and worldwide
racing success of the Elite, will be on hand to meet with other
Elite owners, Lotus owners, sports car lovers and to reminisce
among themselves. The Reunioners will be featured in panels during
the weekend.
The list of Elite Reunioners continues to grow. Les Leston, Ian
Scott-Watson, John Wagstaff, Jay Chamberlain, Ron Hickman, Robin
Read, Peter Cambridge, Jesse Wyllie, Tony Caldersmith, Jerry Juhan,
Albert Adams, Ron Bennett, Bill Allen and Sir John Whitmore plan to
attend. Based on the response to date, may others are expected.
Another very special feature of LOG 14 will be the Sunday evening
showing of John Wagstaff's films of Team Elite, from 1960 on.
Commentary will be provided by John and other Team Elite members.
In addition to the largest collection of Elites ever in the US and
possibly anywhere, there will be many other Lotuses of note at LOG
14. Of particular interest will be the IX driven by Colin Chapman
at Le Mans.
Other key events of the weekend will be the Friday night reception
sponsored by Lotus Cars USA, the Saturday concours, panoramic
photograph and picnic at Lime Rock Park race track, Sunday's
autocross, rally and awards brunch and a full day on the track at
Lime Rock on Monday.
