How do pros feel about them? Carroll Smith hates them (as well as all the varieties of soft spring washers), for exactly the reason that Ray Gibbons points out. A properly torqued bolt will stay in place just based on the tension. If you're feeling particularly insecure, use loctite. If the metal of the tab/washer squishes out when you torque it, what's it going to do under load? |
