But first to Roger... have fun, and keep the shiniy-side up!
I have been attending vintage race events for a number of
years. I can recommend few other activities more highly
(except those that can be done with wind in the face, or clothes
removed). The people are the sport's (?) real treasure, for
they are genuine enthusiast for whatever marque they push about
at speed. These folks generally are not adverse to share their
love of what they do with the public at large, and have given me
the opportunity to learn a lot about various racers.
By the bye, this year's Chicago Historic Races that will be held
at Road America (Elkhart Lake Wisc.) will feature the music of
CAN AM Thunder in Thunder Valley, as well as all the Ford GT40s
that are capable of movement. According to one of the organizers
George Stauffer (based on a totally overheard conversation) he
would "accept no excuses for GT40 owners not attending except
death in the family... that's the IMMEDIATE FAMILY"). I've made
my arrangements and will be there clicking away, camera in hand
(GT40s are a particular favorite of mine... they prove the old
racing axiom "Nothing succeeds like cubic dollars").
Rememeber, best part of the Ford GT40 was made in Britain!
