Hi,

When I put the spin-on adapter on my TR6, I had the same problem. In fact,
at the time, TRF didn't recommend any particular filter. I think that the
installation instructions implied using a filter that "would fit".

However, I know this has changed. I never have to order the filter that I
use, which is the Purolator L20064. Note, this part number superceeds the
PER 64 that was mentioned in the original message.

One of the folks from New England Triumphs wrote an article about this topic
about a year or two ago. I have since seen the article reprinted in at least
one other publication (VTR's magazine, I think). The gist of the article
was about the presence of the check valve. The article recommends that you
have the check valve, and further defines which filters to use. I forget if
the Purolator L20064 has a check valve.

If there is any interest, I'll dig the article out and get the juicey details
to the list. Note: the article was by Jack Emery of Bangor, ME. I consider
Jack's opinion very highly, as he puts a lot of miles on his TR4 every year.

Good luck with whatever course you set.

p.s. I get the L20064's at Auto Palace. They never have any parts that I look
for, but they always seem to have L20064's. And get a couple so you have one
on hand, just in case! I forget the application for this particular filter,
but they are not that unusual. You should be able to get equivalent units from
the big guys, even NAPA will have them.

p.p.s. I love having the spin-on compared to the original. I only spill oil
when I'm filling it now ;-).
