In the process of reinstalling the transmission cover on my TR6, I would
like to clean off the white, flaky, sticky stuff that covers the rubber
boot which fits around the shift lever. I suspect that this stuff is some
kind of mold release agent, left over from the manufacturing process.
I would like my rubber to be nice and clean and shiny before I put it
back on ... er, in.
Anybody know what the best solvent is for removing that stuff?
Is there anything that I should definitely NOT try (DOT3?), that might
damage the rubber?
Also, I'll be replacing the dashboard with another old, factory original
dashboard. Can I spray a couple of light coats of polyurethane lacquer
over the existing varnish/lacquer without problems, or do I need to
remove the existing coat first? Sand or strip?
