All these Old Farts have been talking about vacuum wipers. Well,
this KOF (Krochety Old Fart) remembers vacuum shifting on my
dad's 47 Chevrolet. Anyone else seen one of these?

Yep. Seen that. Done that. ...and remember that most of the vacuum shift
Chevys had the plastic gearshift end broken off from trying to speed shift?
Of course the vacuum mechanism wouldn't let you us do that but we tried
anyway. The Fords with their snappy V8 would get a Chevy on getaway, but
the old Chevy cast iron six would get the Ford on top speed - stock, that
is.
